THOUGH INJURY brought a premature end to Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw’s season last time, the Reggae Girl striker has been in action on the awards circuit with remarkable consistency.
This time out, Shaw is among six players shortlisted for Professional Footballers Association (PFA) Player of the Year.
Outfitted in the Manchester City gear for the 2023-2024 Women’s Super League, Shaw led the Women’s Super League with 22 goals, eight more than her closest rival, despite calling time on her season in April because of a broken leg, which required surgery.
Her performance made her City’s all-time leading goal scorer with 72 goals, surpassing Georgia Stanway’s 67.
The 27-year-old will go up against Manchester City teammates Lauren Hemp and Yui Hasegawa and the Chelsea trio of Lauren James, Niamh Charles and Erin Cuthbert.
Shaw has already been awarded several accolades for her 2023-24 performance, bagging the Barclays Women’s Super League Player of the Season and the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Women’s Footballer of the Year awards.
The shortlist for the men’s award is headlined by Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, who hit the back of the net 27 times last season to finish as the Premier League’s top scorer.
It also includes Rodri and Phil Foden (Manchester City), Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, Chelsea striker Cole Palmer, and Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins.
The award winners will be announced on August 20.
