THE EDITOR, Madam:
The Jamaica Public Service Company says it has completed post-Hurricane Beryl restoration of electricity to the majority of its customers except for some in St Elizabeth.
Despite the intervention of Minister Vaz – many thanks for his persistent intervention and follow-up – the JPS has failed us miserably as a people.
As a retired returning resident, who chose to return to my homeland two months before the hurricane hit our beautiful island, which left me without electricity for three weeks in Mandeville, my concern is the slow response of the JPS to our need for electricity.
It is apparent that the Government needs to provide additional services to supplement the service provided by the JPS, since the maintenance and restoration of electricity to its customers cannot be reliably provided by JPS alone in a timely manner.
The rotting poles with overhead wires carrying high tension voltage are dangerous and unsightly. Modernisation needs to begin now, and with some competition the JPS would be forced to provide improvement in the standard of service delivered to the people of Jamaica.
Think of the small business owners who are dependent on electricity to produce, and feed their children from day to day, who have been without electricity for over five weeks now. The JPS must be held accountable for their loss of revenue.
Who will hold The JPS accountable?
