Ocho Rios High head coach Veron Peterkin says his team is aiming to remain top of the zone after they crushed Marcus Garvey Technical High 6-1 in their Zone I match of the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup at Drax Hall Sports Complex yesterday.
Kaneil Brown opened the scoring for the winners in the fourth minute and Robert Morris doubled the score in the 16th minute. Ocho Rios went further ahead in the 42nd minute when Antonio Mitchell scored and Rajaun Garrick put them 4-0 up at half-time.
Marcus Garvey’s Nathan Perry gave his team some hope in the 68th minute from the penalty spot but Morris completed a brace in the 76th minute and some wonderful play in the middle of the park from 14-year-old Dario James sealed the win in the 77th minute.
“We really want to top the zone. That is the plan, really. It feels good being on top now and we are progressing nicely. We are just taking one game at a time and seeing how the rest of the games progress,” Peterkin told The Gleaner.
“We are targeting every game for three points, whatever the scoreline,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ian Campbell, coach of Marcus Garvey Technical, said his team gave it their all.
“I must commend the boys on their effort. They came out and represented. The programme went downhill from COVID-19 and since then we have been trying to re-establish ourselves,” Campbell told The Gleaner. He added that most of his players lack experience in the daCosta Cup.
