DUNBEHOLDEN registered their first victory of the 2024-25 Jamaica Premier League season yesterday after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Harbour View at the Dunbeholden Sports Complex.
Dunbeholden got the winner in the 14th minute courtesy of a cracking right-footed strike from Leo Campbell that managed to sneak by Harbour View’s custodian, Romario Palma ,at the near post.
Harbour View were then gifted a chance to respond in the 19th minute, but defender Ajeanie Talbott, from point-blank range, sent his header wide of the mark. As they continued tor press for an equaliser, Oquassa Chong was denied from the penalty spot by a superb save from Romaine Hamilton’s outstretched arms. Harbour View got more chances to equalise close to the end of the first half. The easiest went to Romario Gibbs, who skied his effort over the bar in the 39th minute.
Dunbeholden managed to keep out any dangerous buildup play from their opponents in the second half and tried to catch them on the counterattack on several occasions. In the 84th minute Dunbeholden’s Campbell went in search of his second of the match but was denied by Palma, who pulled off a fine save.
Byjeon Thomas, head coach of Dunbeholden, stated that he was pleased with getting the first victory of the season. The Dunbeholden team entered Sunday’s fixture having conceded 11 goals in their first four fixtures, and Thomas explained that getting a clean sheet was on their ‘to-do’ list against Harbour View.
“I’m happy for the boys because I’ve seen the work that they have put in, and I’m happy that we got off the mark today. In terms of fitness, strength, and belief, we are better now. I was extremely happy as I could see that they wanted a clean sheet. The team showed that they wanted to dominate, and ahead of the next game we’ll just rest, assess, and decide on what we need to do going forward,” Thomas said.
Two other matches played at Drax Hall ended with 1-0 scorelines. Humble Lion clipped Molynes United, with 35-year-old veteran midfielder Andre Clennon getting the winner two minutes into injury time at the end of the game. Mount Pleasant edged Tivoli Gardens courtesy of a strike from forward Kimoni Bailey-Travolta in the 70th minute.
