Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Skip Marley Minto, has the honour of affectionately calling Marcia Griffiths his “Auntie”.
Griffiths, who has shared the stage with three generations of the Marley dynasty, hints at an electrifying assortment of surprise guests at the Marcia Griffiths & Friends show on November 3 at Hope Gardens in Kingston. Skip Marley will be one of the friends.
Skip Marley, who is the son of Cedella Marley, Bob Marley’s eldest daughter, is quoted in a press release as stating that “it is an honour and a privilege to be on the same stage with the legend, who is also my grandaunt”.
“It’s undeniable the impact that she has had on reggae music from the earlier years with Bob Andy to the I-Three and still maintaining her solo career. She has proven to the world that she is unstoppable,” Skip added.
The release noted that “Skip Marley says he is free in his creative process. The self-taught multi-instrumentalist says his guitar is his best friend”.
Among the friends who will join reggae legend Marcia Griffiths in celebrating 60 years in the music business are Shaggy, Busy Signal, Tanya Stephens, Tessanne Chin, Nadine Sutherland, Alaine, Brick & Lace, Duane Stephenson, Tony Gregory, Cutty Ranks, Ras Shiloh, and others.
