MUCH OF the attention from the two sets of matches in Zone 3 of the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup round of 16 will be on Glenmuir High School’s contest against Ocho Rios High at 3 p.m. tomorrow.
Both teams are coming off big wins in their opening matches on Saturday and are on three points. Ocho Rios, however, by virtue of winning 5-0 away to Happy Grove at Carder Park, are the group leaders by just a goal.
Glenmuir gave as much as they got on Saturday after their 4-0 home win over Dinthill left them breathing down the necks of the group leaders.
Since their two losses in their final two games of the preliminary round, Glenmuir have been dominant, going undefeated for four games in a row. In the round of 32, they toppled defending champions Clarendon College at home 2-0 and scored an identical win over Titchfield at Carder Park before beating Paul Bogle 3-0 at home.
They continued their rich vein of form in their opening match in the round of 16 on Saturday and have, importantly, kept a clean sheet throughout. At the other end of the pitch, they have been clinical, pumping in 11 goals.
The Andrew Peart-coached team will face a perfect Ocho Rios team.
Ocho Rios haven’t lost all season but will likely find Glenmuir their toughest test to date.
Former Denbigh High and national under-17, under-18, and under-20 player, Dunsting Cohen, has been in hot form for Glenmuir, scoring in their last four games, and could prove a difference maker.
Still, Cohen will be up against an Ocho Rios unit that put the brakes on a Happy Grove team who were coming off three consecutive wins in their previous matches. Ocho Rios will be confident.
Keneil Brown is coming off a hat-trick against Happy Grove and he, along with Keanu Reid, will give Glenmuir’s much-vaunted defence an acid test.
Playing at home, Dinthill who held Glenmuir goalless at half-time before conceding four second-half goals, will be hoping to redeem themselves against Happy Grove.
