THE EDITOR, Madam:
Silly seasons are there to bring a new level of comedy, perhaps sadly, to very serious life-and-death issues. There is an unfortunate, dismissive attitude to making voting politic issues. Some will say ‘leave it to others to make that choice’ or ‘be involved’.
Comedy is a useful strategy when critiquing an opponent. However, even when friends continually call each other ‘dwag’ or other put-downs, such pejorative expressions, over time, can be wounding and lead to ferocious violence, ending in fatalities.
In the US elections, the entire Old McDonald Farm has appeared. The stars are the dogs and cats. Recently, ‘geese’ have been on the catwalk.
The inference to the song may make the listener believe that Christmas may be marred by unfavourable results. No more Christmas if the geese are ‘eaten’. What gold will be brought to the table on November 6 or thereafter?
Oh, my! What is good for the goose is not good for the gander?
One should never pin their hopes on the platform phrases of politicians. Get into your own game plan, your journey, your pathway.
