Jamaica's two major telecommunications companies, Digicel and Flow, say they have readied their networks for the impending tropical storm.
In a media release on Monday morning, Flow said it has now completed rigorous network-readiness and resilience measures.
It says last evening, it activated its Local Crisis Management Team, which is responsible for preparing customers, staff, and its network infrastructure during the period leading up to, during and immediately following a disaster.
Flow says its stores across the island will close at 1:00 p.m. on Monday to allow its teams to prepare adequately for the impending weather conditions.
Meanwhile, Digicel says having readied its network, people, and resources, it has transitioned to full preparation mode for the potential tropical storm.
Specifically, Digicel says it has ensured that all cell sites and fibre optic installations across the island are in good order and ready to go. It says these measures are in addition to Digicel playing a pivotal role in coordinating Jamaica's national response.
“Beginning with preparatory messages to our customers and the wider public, we've also been busy collaborating with key disaster preparedness stakeholders, including ODPEM, first responders, and even our competitor. We're taking an all-hands approach to Jamaica's response,” commented Stephen Murad, CEO of Digicel Jamaica.
Both Digicel and Flow have urged their customers to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety, including ensuring that phones are charged and adequately topped up.
