ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC):
CRICKET WEST Indies (CWI) has unveiled the West Indies Test squad for the much-anticipated two-match series against Bangladesh. The series, which will run from November 22 to December 4, 2024, will be hosted in Antigua and Jamaica.
The squad, led by Kraigg Brathwaite, strikes a balance between experienced campaigners and emerging talent. Among the notable inclusions is Barbadian batting all-rounder Justin Greaves, whose blistering form in the CG United Super50 Cup for the Leeward Islands Hurricanes saw him rack up three centuries. Another highlight is the return of Guyanese off-spinner Kevin Sinclair. However, the team will miss the services of Jason Holder, who continues his recovery from a shoulder injury.
Ahead of the series, a CWI Select XI led by Brathwaite will face Bangladesh in a two-day warm-up match on November 17 and 18 at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua.
West Indies head coach, Andre Coley, emphasised the significance of the series and the preparations leading up to it.
“We expect the series against Bangladesh to be competitive between two emerging squads. The warm-up match and training camp provides the ideal foundation for experienced and developing players to refine their skills ahead of the Tests.”
The CWI Select XI squad provides invaluable exposure for emerging talent. In addition, the match supports the development of coaching talent, with former Jamaica and West Indies spinner Nikita Miller serving as head coach. Local pathway coach Pernel Watley will also assist in the team’s preparation.
