AFTER A long wait, one of the preseason favourites in the ISSA Rural Schoolgirl Netball competition, Denbigh High School, will make their second-round debut tomorrow.
The Winston Nevers-coached teams, who were very impressive in the preliminary round in both junior and senior categories, will travel to The Queen’s School in Kingston. Their junior team will first go up against Port Antonio High School at 11 a.m. before the seniors tackle Morant Bay High at noon.
All teams in the competition at this stage have played either one or two matches so far, and Denbigh will be keen to open their account in Group IV.
With the dynamic duo of goal shooter Leneice Williams and goal attack Abbigail Williams, the Denbigh team knows that they need an impressive start here as the likes of Manchester High, Glenmuir, and Holmwood Technical’s seniors have all had dominant performances to lead their respective groups.
Following a ruthless display in their second game of the round, where they dispatched Irwin High 109-3, the Carline Graham-Powell-coached Holmwood will be hoping to make it three wins in a row when they go up against Bishop Gibson High at Manchester High, starting at noon. Holmwood’s juniors will be in action at 11:00 a.m. for a fixture against May Day.
With most members of last year’s successful junior team moving up to the seniors, Manchester High has looked in awesome form in their two matches. They will journey to St Elizabeth Technical High School to take on Green Pond at 12:30 p.m., just after their juniors take on the same opponents at 10:30 a.m.
The Ryan Reid-coached Glenmuir seniors are coming off a big 55-18 win over the previously unbeaten Dinthill and look set to pick up their third consecutive victory in Group II.
They will travel to Moneague College in St Ann to take on Brown’s Town at noon, while their juniors face Marcus Garvey at 11 a.m.
