In a direct appeal to the women vote, Government MP and House Speaker Juliet Holness declared that the ruling Jamaica Labour Party is a progressive organisation that supports gender equality in Jamaica.
Addressing the party's annual conference today, Holness listed several public positions to which women have been appointed under the current administration.
"My Jamaican family, there is no doubt at all that the Jamaica Labour Party is the party of choice for women. We have strongly and actively taken steps to protect our women," she said, hailing Gender Minister Olivia 'Babsy' Grange for the establishment of shelters for abused women.
She also noted the increase the maternity leave from 40 days to 60 days.
