The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has imposed a curfew in sections of Enfield and Annotto Bay in St Mary in an attempt to stem crime in those areas.
Commanding officer for the St Mary police division, acting superintendent Anthony Wallace, said that the curfew was implemented from 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and will end at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
Wallace said the measure has been deemed necessary to address what he described as the escalating gang violence in those areas, which he said has resulted in multiple robberies, shootings and murders.
The boundaries of the curfew are as follows:
North: Along Dry River Bridge towards Top Enfield.
East: along Enfield main road, extending northeast towards the National Water Commission pump house at Fort Stewart.
South: along an imaginary line running from Top Enfield to May River.
West: along May River to a section of Fort Stewart.
"During the curfew, the operation will be conducted with the utmost respect for human rights, and community members are urged to cooperate fully with law enforcement. Deputy Superintendent of Police Kevin Francis will lead the operation," stated Wallace.
The Commanding officer said that the police remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens. He is also urging residents to report any suspicious activities to the police and stay informed about developments.
