Reggae Girlz captain Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw has been sidelined by injury until the new year.
Shaw, the top forward for England Women’s Super League (WSL) team Manchester City, has an injury to her lower leg. Her club coach, Gareth Taylor, told the MSN news network that the injury “needs a bit more extensive investigation”. The head coach said the 27-year-old will undergo scans in order to reveal the extent of the issue.
Shaw, the team’s leading scorer with nine goals, was missing yesterday as Manchester City were stunned 2-1 by ninth-place Everton. Everton led 2-0 at halftime with goals from Lucy Hope and Honoka Hayashi before Mary Fowler (89th minute) pulled back a goal for Manchester City.
Shaw was on target twice in her last WSL match against Leicester on December 8. The Jamaican scored in the second and 29th minutes. Man City are second in the league with 22 points, six behind leaders Chelsea. Arsenal are third on 21.
Taylor said they are having a tough time at the moment with injuries but that they will have to adapt to the situation.
Manchester City will next be in action against Barcelona on Wednesday in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. The English club leads Group D with 15 points, three more than second-place Barcelona.
