Port Authority of Jamaica welcomes Disney Cruise Lines

The Port Authority of Jamaica welcomes Disney Cruise Line to the island through visits for the first time, with new itineraries departing from Galveston, Texas in late 2013.

After an eight-year courtship, the Port Authority of Jamaica was eventually successful in their efforts after a series of familiarisation trips were hosted earlier this year for Disney Cruise Line executives. These trips enabled the Port Authority to better showcase Jamaica's cruise offerings and the infrastructure of the ports.

The Port Authority was able to fulfil the needs of Disney Cruise Lines through the offerings of its newest port development, the historic Falmouth Port. The Falmouth Pier, which won an unprecedented four awards during its inaugural year of operations in 2011, including the World Travel Awards' World Leading Tourism Development Project, ideally matched the criteria set by the Disney Cruise Lines.

According to a recent Disney Cruise Line release, "While in Falmouth, one of the Caribbean's best-preserved Georgian towns, guests can sample the city's history and culture, take a trip through time on a horse-and-buggy ride, shop for arts and crafts and taste Jamaica's signature jerk recipes."

The Port Authority is pleased to continually enhance Jamaica's cruise product through innovative marketing efforts and commits to ensure that Jamaica builds on its tradition of being recognised by the World Travel Awards for the past six consecutive years as the World's Leading Cruise Destination.
