The police have now charged one of their colleagues who was recently arrested for allegedly taking money from a man to locate a missing person.

The policeman has been identified as 38-year-old Corporal Demerce Sooman.

He was arrested by the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) on June 15 under the Corruption Prevention Act.

It is reported that on June 13, a man, who resides overseas, visited the Rockfort Police Station in St Andrew and filed a missing person’s report.

MOCA says the man returned the next day to follow up on the investigation.

That's when it's alleged that the Corporal solicited and accepted $14,000 from him to locate the missing person.

It is also alleged that the accused contacted the man and solicited an additional $15,000 on June 15.

MOCA says it subsequently received a report and conducted a sting operation during which the accused was searched and the money found on his person.
