Dig in to Morning Bites
For 10 years, the Gleaner-sponsored Restaurant Week has been the most anticipated food event on the national calendar.
For this its 11th staging, from Kingston to Montego Bay, you will be kept full morning, noon and night with the addition of morning bites. Fromage Gourmet Market & Bistro, Michael's Restaurant and Coffee Shop, Susie's Bakery & Coffee Bar, and Tea Tree Creperie will have you up bright and early with the most decadent breakfast options you have only dreamed of. Last Wednesday, a very small list of specially invited guests gathered at Fromage Gourmet Market to celebrate this newest category.
As waiter Dwight Nelson walked into the intimate room, if the guests weren't awake by then, the aroma of savoury items was sure to do the trick. Steak and eggs (succulent beef tenderloin, grilled and served with two eggs your way), egg sammy (sunny side up egg with maple-cured bacon and carmelised onion aioli), bananas foster pancakes or waffles (pancakes topped with rum-infused flambe bananas and whipped cream), ham and eggs plate (two slices of honey-smoked ham and two eggs your way with baguette toast) and crablette (fluffy eggs folded with local blue crab, tomatoes, spinach and cheese), all of which were customised. It truly was a breakfast feast fit for royalty.
With an aim to facilitate conversation, Fromage made good use of the tapas serving style and each guest chose exactly what they wanted.
Breakfast would not be complete, of course, without beverage. Coffee, tea, mimosa, orange and June plum blends were the order of the day - the perfect way to kick-start the day and launch the Morning Bites category. Check out the list of participating restaurants and start making your reservations.
