Cedar Grove Estate will have added motivation when they meet Rodwood in the final of the Pines Imaging Centre-sponsored Portmore Under-17 Football League tomorrow at Cedar Grove playing field at 3 p.m.

Cedar Grove's senior team won the Division Two title earlier this season, and the junior team will want to emulate that feat. The final was originally scheduled for last Sunday, but was changed.

Meanwhile, Rodwood qualified for the final after they clipped Southborough 2-1 in one semi-final, while Cedar Grove got past Racing United 3-1 on Thursday.

Rushane Wallace, Shawn-D Thompson and Giovaughnie Gray scored for Cedar Grove. The match was played two Sundays ago with Cedar Grove leading 2-0, but with 44 minutes left in the game, rain and lightning forced officials to discontinue the game. The game continued from where it stopped, and Cedar Grove came out on top. Rodwood won the team's only meeting 1-0 this season, but it's a final and the stakes are much higher.

JDCA Premier League

Jamaica Domino Council Association (JDCA) Premier League just concluded their third round of matches.

Heavyweight Spit Fyah burnt Right Stuff 300-244 to show that they will be the team to beat in this competition. They will be going all out, as in their last competition they were favourites, but got knocked out in the quarter-finals.

In other games, Waterhouse cut down Small Axe 300-283, Mechanical Strikers whipped Memory Lane 300-208, Braeton All Star stunned International Domino Club 300-290, Giants crushed Vintage Pub 300-199, Caribbean Classic outclassed Highlight Strikers 300-198, Bull Bay United beat Jade Strikers 300-281, and Sour Sop Tree nipped Exceptional International 300-298.

Over 300 children benefit from INSPORTS

Summer Camp

Over 300 children aged eight to 15 years benefited from a one-month Institute of Sports (INSPORTS) Summer Camp at the National Stadium, which was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, which is headed by Olivia 'Babsy' Grange.

The children were engaged in football, netball, basketball, cricket, swimming, volleyball, softball, baseball and table tennis. The children hailed from communities in the St Catherine Central, St Andrew North Eastern, St Andrew South Eastern and St Andrew Eastern constituencies.

The main objective of the camp is to unearth and nurture talent.

The Power of Faith Ministries (PFM) sports complex should be abuzz with excitement this afternoon, as the semi-finals of the PFM church netball league enters its semi-final stage.

At 3:05 p.m., defending champions PFM take on PFM St Thomas, and at 4 p.m., Faith Temple New Testament challenge Equator Faith Mission.

In last week's quarter-final games, PFM defeated Greater Portmore Open Bible (GPOB) 58-3, with leading shooters Sophia March (GS) 37 goals from 43 attempts and (GA) Debbie-Ann Coghiel, 19 goals from 30 attempts, and Octivia Tennyson (GS), two goals from four attempts. Nikita Shirley (GA) scored all three goals, from nine attempts, for GPOB.

In another game, Faith Temple New Testament defeated PFM St Thomas 30-27, with top scorers being (GS) Amecca Thomas, with 16 goals from 23 attempts, and (GA) Christelle-Ann Walker, who netted 14 goals from 17 attempts. For PFM St Thomas, (GA) Moya Green, with 12 shots from 22 attempts, and Shantell Bryan (GS), 15 goals from 26 attempts, netted the goals.

Semis begin in Clarendon netball leagues

The semi-final round in the Juici Patties-sponsored Clarendon Netball Association senior and junior leagues will take centre stage tomorrow at the Mineral Heights Sports Complex.

The Junior League semi-finals will begin at 2 p.m. with Holmwood B team against Girls Strikers, and then at 3 p.m. it will be the Manchester derby between May Day High and Ridgemount.

The Senior League semi-finals start at 3:50 p.m. with defending champions Jamalco against Cable Pro, followed by the second semi-final between Hayes and Team R of Mandeville.

Last weekend's quarter-final matches were loaded with interesting turnarounds, beginning with the juniors. Holmwood B, who were the last of the qualifiers, brilliantly overcame an 18-11 half-time deficit to defeat Hayes Super Stars 29-27. Girls Strikers trailed Hayes Synergy 10-11 at half time, before emerging victors 23-22.

In the other two quarter-final encounters, Ridgemount held on to outscore Denbigh B 15-12 in a low-scoring match, while May Day kept their 12-9 half-time lead to clip Glenmuir 19-18.

In the lone Senior League game, Team R of Mandeville surprised the Hayes Supreme team 46-30.

Football League

The 2016 season of the Jamalco Football League is down to four teams. The first of two semi-final matches will be hosted today at the Wembley Centre of Excellence playing field. There will be no games tomorrow owing to Jamalco football team's planned practice match against Boys' Town.

The second semi-final will be hosted on Wednesday at the Wembley Centre of Excellence and features New Bowens and Port.

In the first quarter-final match last weekend, Sunset, who finished as the second qualifier from preliminary Zone Three, defeated Bottom Halse Hall 2-1 on penalties after the two had battled to a 1-1 draw.

Savannah, the top gun from Zone One, needed no extra time in hammering Railroad 4-0, with striker Andre Dawson, who is looking to get in the Jamalco Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) set-up, scoring twice.

On Monday in the third quarter-final, New Bowens qualified with a 1-0 win against Invincible. Port booked the final semis spot, knocking over defending champions Top Hill 3-0.

The quarter-final round in the Top Notch Summer League football competition will close tomorrow at Sunset playing field with two games.

In the first game at 2 p.m., highly touted Knockpatrick, which features a few RSPL imports, take on Providence United, while in the second match at 4 p.m., it will be Albion United vs Mandeville United.

In the first of the quarter-final round matches last weekend, Plouden, one of the top qualifiers from round one, kept their unbeaten status with a late 1-0 win over Generations. From an acute angle wide of the 18-yard box, Loxley Williams curled the ball over the custodian, who pushed it into the back of the net.

The second match saw Sunset making light work of Central United 3-0.

Connections march into Porus/Western Union U15 semis

Defending champions Connections brushed aside two-time winners Tuff Gong 3-0 to become the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the Western Union-sponsored Porus Under-15 football tournament at Porus Community Centre.

Connections have now completed four wins and scored a whopping 26 goals, while conceding only one. Their third win came earlier in the week with a 7-0 demolition of Settlement. Another team, Sporting Academy of Clarendon, defeated Trinity 6-0 to put themselves in a good position to qualify.

The final set of preliminary games will be played tomorrow and Tuesday, August 23. Tomorrow features a double-header starting at 3:30 p.m., with Settlement vs Litchfield and at 5 p.m., Tuff Gong vs Star Zone. On Tuesday, which also features a double-header, Rising Stars take on Villa in the first match before Galaxy battle against Trinity.

The semi-finals will be played on Thursday, and Sunday, August 28 will be the grand final.

Jamalco host

Boys' Town in RSPL

New entrants to the upcoming Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL), Jamalco, will continue their preparation with a football practice match against Boys' Town tomorrow at Fogo High School grounds in Clarendon at 3:30 p.m.

Last Sunday, in the Allien Whittaker Cup match played at Hayes Community Centre, the Jamalco line-up were highly competitive against parish mates Humble Lion, with a 1-1 draw after regulation and extra time, before bowing out 5-4 on penalties.

Three days earlier, fans watched them defeat the National Under-17 team 5-3 in another specially arranged practice game in Clarendon.

The Clarendon team is yet to finalise its player roster, and team officials revealed there are five new imports with RSPL experience who are looking to earn a place in the squad.

Football League

kicks off

The Peter Bunting Football League, which is organised under the banner of the Central Manchester Sports Development Committee, kicked off last weekend at the Hanbury Community Centre near the Winston Jones Highway.

In the lone encounter, defending champions and host, Hanbury, who represent the Mandeville division, easily brushed aside Mandeville United 3-0.

The competition continues tomorrow with one match in the Mandeville division, featuring Cedar Grove against the Mandeville Police team. Action in the divisions of Bellefield, Porus and Knockpatrick will commence next weekend.
