ADELAIDE, Australia (CMC):

WEST INDIES teammates Hayley Matthews and Deandra Dottin led a historic performance by the Melbourne Renegades in their nine-wicket demolition of Adelaide Strikers during yesterday’s Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL).

Player-of-the-match Matthews smashed an unbeaten 85 from 54 deliveries with 12 fours and two sixes, while Dottin blazed a boundary-studded 46 from just 18 balls that contained seven fours and a six, as the Renegades recorded the highest successful chase in WBBL history to finish on 186 for one in 17.1 overs in reply to the Strikers’ 185 for eight from their 20 overs.

Openers Matthews and Courtney Webb set the foundation for the Renegades with a 90-run opening partnership, before Webb was forced to retire hurt after scoring 37 from 29 balls.

Shortly after, new batter Alice Capsey was dismissed by Darcie Brown for just four, to leave the Renegades 101 for one in the 12th over.

Matthews and Dottin then shared an unbroken 85-run partnership in under six overs to propel the Renegades to victory with 17 balls remaining.

Earlier, the Strikers were boosted by a good performance from their top order on their way to posing an imposing 185 for eight.

Tahlia McGrath stroked 49 from 24 balls, Smriti Mandhana scored 40 from 25 balls, and Laura Wolvaardt chipped in with 27.

Matthews took 2-28 from her four overs.
