Politicians are very hypocritical

Published:Saturday | February 13, 2010 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

When will we, as citizens of Jamaica, wake up to the truths outlined in Peter Espeut's commentary on Friday, February 12, titled 'The largest divisions'?

The legitimate and valid complaints of the people are largely ignored or rejected by politicians, both male and female, of all persuasions. The politicians of one party practise the same disgraceful and contemptuous acts they decry and condemn of others in or out of power. On the other hand, every good act or proposal of their opponent is wrong or worthless, while every act or proposal by them is just and laudable. What they destroy and decry as worthless or useless when in power, they advocate when not in power.

Hypocritical

Politicians are very hypocritical. They talk out of two sides of their mouths. Their opinions tend to be baseless and groundless because they hypocritically stand on shifting sands.

They foster hatred and contempt of their fellow citizens and engender distrust and even violence when out of power but preach and demand tolerance, cooperation and trust when in power.

Is there any wonder why our country is sinking deeper and deeper into the malaise of indifference and the mire of chaos and disintegration?

I am, etc.,
