The Jamaica Constabulary Force's (JCF) Get The Guns Campaign has recovered over 130 illegal weapons and 1,500 rounds of ammunition since its launch in September.

Commissioner of Police, Dr Carl Williams made the revelation in May Pen.

The commissioner says he is pleased with the achievement as guns are used in over 80 per cent of murders committed locally.

According to Williams, in time, the recovery of the weapons will result in a reduction in major crimes.

According to him, after 148 years of service to the nation the JCF still continues to suffer with issues such as a high crime rate, the emergence of lottery scamming and what he termed as 'members of the force who have gone to the dark side'.

However, he says despite these challenges, members of the of force must find the determination to serve the nation.

The commissioner was speaking in May Pen yesterday at the JCF's Central Impact and Awards Ceremony as part of it's police week of activities.
