'I have - to curse!' - Holness says he has grounds because PNP's failing people's test

After taking the stage at approximately 10:55 p.m. Tuesday, Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) leader Andrew Holness told supporters in west Portland that members of his constituency of St Andrew west central were provoked by persons aligned to the People's National Party (PNP).

The JLP leader, who urged the crowd to refrain from violence or any form of intimidation, said that despite provocation by PNP supporters, his supporters did not react, but instead allowed them to pass freely.

The JLP leader said he was impressed with the turnout of young people, who he said were throwing their support behind the party of change - the party which promises to move them from "poverty to prosperity".

"We are focusing on ways to make your lives better,"said Holness. "But the PNP is hurt and confused by what we are doing. One individual has seen it necessary to claim that I am cursing and criticising them for passing the tests. But if they are failing the people's test, I have to curse!" he added.

Holness also chided the PNP for ducking the national debates, which, according to him, would offer an opportunity for both parties to tell the people of Jamaica about their plans and strategies for the country's economy and social issues.

"They have made all kinds of accusations and have spread all kinds of nastiness about me. All of a sudden my house has become a major issue. But should the truth be told, they too have houses that are bigger than mine. They are bothered by my ten-point plan, namely the $1.5 million threshold on income tax. But in reality, it will help nurses, the police, teachers, and other public and private sector workers. This is not an election ploy, but rather a carefully thought out realistic plan. You will be able to save approximately $18,000 each month," he said.
