Young Christian on fire for God

Suzette Weir has been going to church, was raised in church, and has never been to a party or club. In 1992, she decided that the best way to live her life was to serve Christ.

"My parents were such good examples. My mother was a Christian first and then my father got saved, so I was raised in a Christian home and taught to live by the principles set out in the Bible," Weir told Family and Religion.

She remained true to the teachings of her parents and has been an active member in church because she feels it is important for young people to get involved in church activities.

"Christ is the one that created us, so we owe it to Him to serve Him. Therefore, it is better for us to dedicate our lives to serving Christ instead of living for the devil," said Weir.

"As young people, whenever we find ourselves in problems or going through a little difficulty, the first thing we do is call upon Jesus. That's the moment we remember Him. So why not accept Him and know that He alone is worthy to be served?" she told Family and Religion.

At 16 years old, Suzette said she, like many other young Christians, faced her fair share of challenges. "Boys would come around and my friends would say all manner of evil, but I chose to serve Christ. I had made up mind and I knew that by the help of God, through prayer and fasting, I would come through it," she said, adding that she was encouraged to hold on and try to live the life her parents lived.

NEEDS SATISFIED

"I am encouraging young people not to stay in sin as there is nothing that this world has to offer but sin, shame and disgrace. But when you come to God, He shall satisfy your needs," said Weir.

As tempting as 'the things of the world' may seem, Weir said being a part of the body of Christ is sweeter. "The Bible says, 'Young men and women, I call upon you because you are strong', and as long as we focus on Him, it will work. His word says, 'Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all his righteousness shall be added unto us', so whatever we want from God, we can get it as long as we are seeking him diligently. He says, 'Nothing will I withhold from them that walk uprightly', so as young people, whatever we desire, it should be in Jesus," she advised.

Weir is involved in Sunday school and is a youth prayer warrior at the Power of Faith Deliverance Ministry in May Pen, where she worships. She is also the founder of a youth group called 'Youth with a Vision on a Mission for

Christ' based in the Effortville community.

"I am again encouraging young people to serve Christ and Christ only. I am urging them to stand fast in the liberty in which Christ has made us free and be not entangled in the yoke of bondage."
