Melbourne look to clinch last eight spot

Title-holders Melbourne will go in search of early qualification to the quarterfinals of the Jamaica Cricket Association Senior Cup when they play Lucas at Nelson Oval in one of several third round rescheduled encounters, starting today.

The round of matches was originally set for three weeks ago but was postponed due to bad weather.

The Andre McCarthy-led Melbourne currently lead Zone A with maximum 18 points from three matches and are followed by Boys' Town and Portland, who are on seven points each from four and three matches, respectively.

Portland are scheduled to play Clarendon at Folly Oval.

Over in Zone B, perennial title challengers St Catherine CC, who have so far recorded a loss and two draws from their encounters, will look to get their campaign back on track when they host second place Police at Chedwin Park.

Police, with a record of one win, one draw and a loss, trail leaders G.C. Foster College, who will host Kingston and St Andrew. The leaders have two wins and a draw for 13 points.

Zone C front runners, Jamaica Defence Force, on 15 points after scoring a win and three draws, will entertain St Elizabeth at Up Park Camp. Second place UWI will travel to Elgin Town to face Hanover, while St James and Westmoreland will square off at Jarrett Park.

Zone D, in the meanwhile, will see leaders Kingston looking to keep their three-match unbeaten record intact when they host St Mary at Sabina Park.

Kingston have 18 points and are followed by St Ann, who after scoring two wins, a draw and a loss are on 17 points. St Ann have drawn a bye for the round. St Catherine CA will face Trelawny at Windalco Sports Club in the zone's other match-up.
