The St Catherine Health Department says the National Housing Trust (NHT) has breached the terms and conditions of a permit issued to it, by connecting the new Berkshire Housing Development to the Eltam treatment plant before completion of improvement work at the plant.

Acting Chief Public Health Officer for the parish Grayson Hutchinson says the permit was issued by the National Environmental Planning Agency (NEPA).

He says the authorities were not notified before the connection was made.

He says the health department is extremely concerned about the breach.

The development consisting of 44 two bedroom town houses was officially handed over by Prime Minister Andrew Holness on September 29.
