Children participate in a Nestlé camp.

Nestlé will this year embark on a series of one-day summer camps over a period of two weeks at the Chinese Benevolent Association to aid children between the ages of six and 12 to lead healthier and happier lives.

The camp will be held from July 8 to 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mondays to Fridays.

As part of the company’s Nestlé for Healthier Kids programme aimed at supporting children in developing and maintaining healthier habits, the camp will be hosted under the theme ‘Unstoppable Kids’ and will be free of cost for the children in attendance.

According to Nestlé, the camp is designed to provide an interactive experience to help children learn about healthy habits.

During one action-packed day, kids will learn important information such as the health benefits of a balanced diet, ways to incorporate fruits and vegetables into meals and snacks, how to manage portions, the importance of recycling, table etiquette and the benefits of exercise. At the end of each day, each child will make a healthy habit pledge to live a better and healthier life as well as receive a certificate of participation.

According to Garfene Grandison, general manager, Nestlé Jamaica Health and Wellness Foundation, “The one-day summer camp is an engaging and interactive way of introducing children to the basics of healthy living from an early age so that they can grow into healthy adults. At Nestlé, we have one simple purpose – to enhance the quality of life and contribute to a healthier future. This camp, together with our Nestlé for Healthier Kids programme in primary schools, is testament to our commitment to ensuring that we fulfil our purpose.”

‘Kids in the Kitchen’

An exciting part of the programme will be the ‘Kids in the Kitchen’ session, during which children will actually be making and tasting their own creations. This session will encourage kids to participate in the preparation of meals at home, so that the whole family can enjoy the benefits of healthy eating.

According to market nutritionist and project lead Annalee Gray, “We all know that parents find it challenging at times to get their kids to eat their fruits and vegetables, and we know that kids are more likely to eat what they have prepared themselves. This is why we have ensured that fruits and vegetables are featured in all of our recipes. Our aim is to increase the child’s awareness of these food groups as tasty and nutritious for everyday eating.”
