SAJ helps to bridge the digital divide
The Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ) recently donated computers to the Marcus Garvey Basic School and the Tavares Gardens Primary School as part of the organisation’s ongoing outreach programme to assist communities in the area of education.
In accepting the computers on behalf of the Marcus Garvey Basic School, Principal Judonna Smikle noted that the computers would be of great help in transforming the school’s resource room into a computer lab for all students. She also thanked the SAJ for its consistent assistance to the school over the years, adding that such support has been of enormous help to many families in the Greenwich Town community.
Terrian Lawrence-Nisbet, principal, Tavares Gardens Primary School, accepted the computers on behalf of her school and said that the contribution was most timely as the PCs would be utilised in the school’s online learning programme.
The SAJ and its members have a long history of community outreach as an integral part of its commitment to being a positive force in Jamaica’s social development.
