Holmwood score two massive wins in rural netball
HOLMWOOD TECHNICAL High’s senior netball team members have sent a powerful message to their rivals with two massive blow-out wins during the past week in the ISSA rural schoolgirls competition.
They first blew away Porus High 93-0 then returned a few days later with a 99-0 win over Alphansus Davis High in Zone D action.
After failing to reach the finals last year the Carline Graham-Powell-coached 12-time rural champions are determined to get back to the pinnacle of schoolgirls netball this season and picked up their second and third wins with the big victories.
With national under-21 development squad member, goal defence Shaqwuan Hamilton, on top of her game, opponents found it very hard to get into the goal circle. On the other hand there were clinical displays from two other national under-21 squad members, goal attack Jashan Swaby and centre Jessica Chaplain.
“We do have a very experienced set of players and after their disappointment last year in not making it to the finals the girls are very determined this time and are ready to go all the way. It has shown in their play so far this season that we have a strong unit and they should deliver,” said veteran coach Graham-Powell.
In other recent senior matches, Lacovia High and Hampton High picked up wins in Zone C along with Cambridge High in Zone B and Guy’s Hill High in Zone G.

After both teams had battled to an exciting 19-19 tie in junior action earlier the St Jago senior team was in no mood for a close affair as they totally dominated their opponents to make it two wins in a row in Zone B.
Campion maintained their unbeaten runs so far in both the junior and senior competitions. Competing at home in Group D their junior team had a big 37-3 win over Greater Portmore before the senior team completed the double by winning 26-13.
