Humble Lion clip Waterhouse in JPL

THE Andrew Price-coached Humble Lion registered their third victory in six games as they defeated Waterhouse last night at the Stadium East field in Jamaica Premier League (JPL) action, courtesy of a 13th-minute strike from Javain Thompson.
Despite getting numerous goalscoring opportunities, Waterhouse failed to convert as they have now lost back-to-back games. Javane Bryan was denied in the third minute as Humble Lion’s custodian Shamal Briscoe was called into action quite early and was equal to the task. Four minutes later teammate Denardo Thomas was also stopped as his powerful right-footed strike was expertly handled again by Briscoe. As Waterhouse failed to convert, they would rue their missed chances as Humble Lion’s Thompson broke the deadlock in the 13th minute courtesy of a deflected shot.
In second half action, Bryan’s header in the 68th minute fell safely into the grasp of Briscoe.
Humble Lion’s Andre Clennon could have doubled the lead in the 83rd minute but misfired despite being on the receiving end of a very good defence-splitting pass from partner Roshane Sharpe.
Waterhouse had a glorious opportunity to level the score in time added but Denardo Thomas, from point blank range, saw his effort soar well over the bar handing Humble Lion their second victory on the trot.
Coach Price was pleased with the response from his team following their 4-1 defeat against Tivoli Gardens as they have now registered back-to-back victories.
“It’s a good response that we’ve gotten from the team after the Tivoli loss. We’ve really done well to win two games in a row and one of the things we wanted to do was to keep a clean sheet as we know the potency of the Waterhouse team. You have to have a mixture of youth and experience and that is what this team is blessed with,” Price explained.
Marcel Gayle, head coach of Waterhouse, in his post-game assessment, outlined that his team had numerous opportunities to score but failed to convert and this proved to be their downfall.
“Humble Lion did what they had to do to win. We should have been a little more patient in the final third as we got shots on target,” Gayle said.
