Put measures in place to protect our children

THE EDITOR, Madam:

With the ongoing saga of our children being taken and/or killed or molested, we need to be more alert and put in place stricter measures to protect our future leaders.

A lot of our children are so naïve, carefree and seem to just be going about their own thing without any guidance. I believe, and in a lot of instances, see where proper parental responsibility is lacking. Children are allowed to do whatever they want. In fact, too many parents do not stand for discipline like before, and I am talking up to the 1980s.

Some parents think that if they correct or discipline his or her child, he or she might run away from home.

I believe the State should take measures to have eyes out on the streets for the predators who are targeting our children.

A good starting point would be to have plain clothes police presence at major and busy hangout spots.

The State can also reach out to well-thinking citizens to form a group that works with law enforcement, giving them the necessary training.

Let’s not wait for another gruesome, heart-rending situation to occur. We must act now.
