Kingston College’s under-14 players celebrate with the winning trophy after their victory over St George’s College in the ISSA Burger King U14 Urban Area final at the Stadium East field yesterday.

Ras-Renaldiho Harriott scored the all-important goal as Kingston College (KC) claimed the ISSA Burger King Under-14 Urban Area title in a 1-0 win over rivals St George’s College (STGC) at the Stadium East field yesterday.

The bragging rights will go to the purple side of North Street as KC defeated their close neighbours for the second time this season in the title decider.

Head coach Devon Smith was an excited figure after the final whistle as he guided the team to a title in his first season at the helm.

“This team has been working together since the summer. We had beaten St George’s earlier in the round but we know it’s a North Street derby and it would not be easy,” Smith explained.

“This under-14 title was there for the taking. It is my first year as head coach at KC and I put a plan together,” he continued.

Harriott opened the scoring early in the contest as he blasted KC into the lead with six minutes on the clock.

Catching the STGC defence high and flat-footed, Harriott ran through on goal to finish to the right of the goalkeeper.

STGC tried their best to get back into the game but could not find the right key to unlock KC’s defence.

The famed purples came close to doubling their lead right at the start of the second half but Javaun Buckridge’s effort sailed agonisingly wide after a brilliant team play.

KC would pile on the pressure but found a worthy adversary in STGC goalkeeper Steven Dixon who was consistently quick off his line to keep his team in the contest.

Smith explained that the under-14 title was an important achievement for the school as they enter their centennial celebrations.

“This win was so important. We have our 100-year anniversary coming up, so we told ourselves as a school, every title that is there, we are going for it.”
