International Women, Jamaica (IWJ) recently held their annual luncheon to assist select students from the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.

Women from diverse backgrounds filled the lawn of the residence of the chargÈ d'affaires of the United States of America.

Wife of the chargÈ d'affaires Halima Khant hosted the luncheon-fundraiser that would later go to a most worthy cause : scholarships for five students from the Edna Manley College.

The formalities included a greeting from Khant, who mentioned that the luncheon reflected the fact the world is a melting pot of cultures. President of IWJ Sheryn Hylton-Parker delivered a warm greeting and spoke about how they offered similar scholarships last year and wanted to do the same this year.

Glenda Simms also spoke, giving a background on her travels and life as a teacher. She was followed by artist Tina Spiro, who had her piece Torched Lily on auction for the event. She presented a slide show of her pieces.

After lunch and with formalities out of the way, guests lingered just to catch up and mingle with friends whom they had not seen in a while.
