Rotaract Club of New Kingston making a difference

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I wish to bring to the attention of all Jamaicans, at home and abroad, another instance in which Jamaicans have shone on the international stage when the New Kingston Rotaract Club received a major award at a convention in Canada.

On June 24, the Rotaract Club of New Kingston was the regional winner of the 2017-2018 Rotaract Outstanding Project Awards for the USA, Canada and Caribbean at the Rotaract Preconvention in Toronto. The club was awarded for the back-to-school medical event that was staged in Nannyville on August 19, 2017.

At this event, the club provided children aged six to 16 free medical care at the Nannyville Community Centre. The children received dental check-ups from dentists, as well as screening for height, weight and general physical health. Eye tests were also carried out.

I feel like a proud Jamaican when I see the positive impact that this instance of community service had on Nannyville.

This experience has shown me how the Rotaract Clubs in Jamaica have worked towards the uplift of the Jamaican people through outreach activities and community service.
