Busy second day for Ja's juniors

Jamaica's Michael Stephens wins his 100 metres heat in 10.30 seconds at the IAAF World Under-20 Championships in Tampere, Finland yesterday.

After a very successful opening day for Jamaica at the IAAF World Under-20 Championships where all seven athletes advanced to the next round of their events, it will be a very busy day two in Finland for the country's young athletes.

Fifteen will be in action with eight to compete in the morning session and seven down for action in the evening session.

Medal favourites Damion Thomas and Orlando Bennett will be the first set to see action as they will compete in the heats of the men's 110m hurdles, starting at 1:30 a.m. Jamaican time .

World leader Thomas, with a best of 12.99 seconds, will take the track first, he will run out of lane three in the first heat. Bennett, the second-fastest with 13.00 in the event this year, will follow in heat two.

The semi-finals are slated for 8:40 a.m. Jamaican time. World Under-18 silver medallist Sanique Walker and Shian Salmon will be in action in the women's 400m hurdles starting at 2:30 a m .

Walker will run out of lane three in heat one, while Salmon is drawn in heat five and will come out of lane six.

Male team captain Christopher Taylor and Chantz Sawyers will be involved in first round action of the men's 400m, starting at 3:20 a.m.

Sawyers will run out of lane three in heat four, while Taylor, the only sub-45 seconds junior in the world this year with a best of 44.88 seconds, will run out of lane five in heat six.

Briana Williams and Okeria Myrie will close out the morning session for Jamaica when they compete in preliminary-round action of the women's 100 metres at 4:27 a.m. Williams is drawn in heat three and will run out of lane three, while Myrie will come out of lane seven in heat four.

The second session will see semi-finals and finals for the remaining Jamaicans, where the Kingston College duo of Wayne Pinnock and Shakwon Coke will be in action in the boys' long jump finals at 9:55 a.m. Jamaican time .

The second session will see 800m women's semi-finals at 9:50 a.m. and the 400m women's semi finals at 10:25 a.m. The men's 100m semi-finals are slated for 9:50 a.m. with the final down for 12:05 p.m.
