Every girl dreams about her wedding dress. And Helen G Events has decided to make that fairytale a reality by providing upcoming local designers with an opportunity to showcase their talent through The Designer Dress competition. The competition, already making waves on the bridal scene, is marking its fourth staging this year. Owner Helen Graham explained that she wanted to highlight Jamaica designers, make their entrepreneurial and designing dreams come true, as well as promote brand Jamaica in the process, "That way persons can have the options of shopping for their wedding dress here rather than venturing overseas," she added.

So, how does the competition work? First the wedding planning company sends out a post via social media and interested designers respond. Then the hopefuls meet with the organisers to discuss the requirements and finally the potentials decide if they want to compete. Once they have confirmed, the first round goes to a public vote via Facebook. From there, the top five are selected, then the winner is declared at the finals, which is to be held at Devon House on Sunday January 27.

"It will be a nice set up this year. The main event is open to the public. It usually comprises a bridal fashion show, featuring various bridal houses and designers. A number of Jamaica's top models will be there to strut the runway in unique designs," Graham revealed.

Plus there'll be much more excitement in store for patrons. The fashion show won't only feature wedding designs. The grand affair will also boast live cooking and food tasting, couples' dance off and kiss off competitions. Craft vendors- both nuptial and otherwise will be available to style your wardrobe. Live performances are set to ignite the stage. From pleasing palates with a pop up restaurant to displaying the luxurious side with classic cars, there will be something for just about everyone on the Sunday. So make it a date, and celebrate with the designer dress competition.
