PNP saddened by ex-councillor’s murder

Eastern Jamaica has been rattled by the murder of Madge Morris, former People’s National Party (PNP) councillor for the White Horses division, St Thomas, the second politician in that region to have been killed in a week.
In a press release, the PNP General Secretary Julian Robinson described the murder as particularly shocking, compounding the “spirit and sorrow among the entire membership of the organisation, especially knowing it was only last week, former PNP East Portland Member of Parliament Lynvale Bloomfield was stabbed to death by unknown assailants.”
Robinson said that the killing of the councillor and activist for the party “continues a catalogue of wanton acts of criminality across the country that leave too many individuals and families in mourning and rob the community and nation of its best talents”.
The press statement also entailed a troubling concern from the party that “while we are experiencing vicious attacks on our elected or former elected officials and heightened level of threats, the Government has proposed to withdraw or minimise the security details of former ministers of government. With extreme sadness and grief, we extend condolences to the children, extended family, friends and membership of the organisation”.
