Roache pulls from the Vault

It has been proven throughout musical history that a song’s recording date bears little significance to its full potential. Earth a Run Red, a one-drop single depicting social conditions, was a 1998 production recorded by Richie Spice that only hit the mainstream market in 2004. Reggae-pop singer Omi is another example of this as his 2012 single, Cheerleader , took on international wings three years after its initial release.

Veteran producer Richard Roache is hoping that he will have the same luck with his latest project, From the Vault, a compilation album that features recordings from 2002 to 2015. “There is always the hope of having a hit song, and as time has shown, sometimes hits come years after their original release, like Gimme Di Light by Sean Paul,” he told The Gleaner. “My expectation, as for any one of my productions, is for it to go out in the world and get its own justice. Whether it’s a party track, meditation track, I just want all the songs to get their fair justice.”

The set features 14 tracks with contributions from entertainers like Beenie Man, Vybz Kartel, Wayne Marshall, Gage, TOK, Pamputtae, Kalado, and Mega Banton. It was executively produced by Roache’s Digital One Productions.

Roache, who has been producing since 2002, hopes this will be the start of a new series where he releases archived works from his label.

“This is just the first volume, and I am contemplating if there will be a second one this year or next year,” he said. “I have some old stuff that was already released from vinyl days, so this is also my way of doing a digital release since we are in a different age.”

Roache received his first hit production with Vybz Kartel’s Up To The Time, a 2002 single voiced on the Scanner rhythm. His production catalogue also boasts Chronixx’s 2012 Odd Ras track, which rests on the 90s rhythm. He currently manages dancehall act Savage and has worked with other entertainers, including Ward 21, Bounty Killer, and Wayne Marshall.
