Education and the Opposition

THE EDITOR, Sir:

We all note the Opposition’s call for the auditor general’s department to probe claims of financial impropriety at the Ministry of Education. However, the leader of the opposition may also need to ask for audit of schools within his constituency first.

Not disregarding their call for the audit as no ministry should be above being audited, it is a widely known fact that rampant scamming takes place at many of these school where political acts are appointed to school boards with agendas of only ‘eating a food’ off poor parents back.

Is the opposition or the current administration serious about education? Both need to clean up their acts and ensure that sensible persons are appointed to school boards within their constituencies instead of endorsing persons who operate contrary to the education code and regulations.

Well-thinking Jamaicans are not asleep and are watching both parties mishandling the education system.
