Letter of the Day | Will the PNP ever distance itself from the ‘Hitler’ statement?

THE EDITOR, Sir:

On Friday, May 16, Krystal Tomlinson was on Nationwide Radio with Mark Wignall explaining the context of her tweet. She said she was comparing the prime minister to the first chapter of Adolf Hitler, not his last chapter.

It seems like the People’s National Party Youth Organisation (PNPYO) president doesn’t know her history. The first chapter of Adolf Hitler clearly showed he was a maniac. Before his Nazi party became relevant, he was sent to prison for committing treason; he wanted to overthrow the government in 1924. Hitler murdered a lot of his political foes before becoming chancellor in 1933 by default. His party came into power based on hating the Jews. Yet still, she’s comparing Andrew Holness to that first chapter of Adolf Hitler?

Prime Minister Holness bolstering the police force and army with more power and having limited states of emergency in the most murderous parishes in Jamaica makes him now akin to Hitler?

Miss Tomlinson should also know that in life, no matter the good you do, one bad act will mark you forever; we can point to Judas. Also in life, one good act can mark you forever, even if you’ve done a lot of bad; we can point to the thief who died on the cross beside Jesus.

Anyway, enough of history lessons and lecturing. I strongly believe the leadership of the People’s National Party should distance itself from Krystal Tomlinson’s statement. To me, it will show leadership, even if she doesn’t apologise or withdraw the comments.

UNTOUCHABLE?

I remember Joan Gordon-Webley in 2007 disrespecting Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller by calling her Jezebel. The Jamaica Labour Party immediately distanced itself from those comments and apologised through General Secretary Karl Samuda; later, Gordon-Webley withdrew the statement. She had to apologise fully in 2015 before joining the PNP.

Even Peter Bunting apologised for calling Labourites ‘John crows’.

I am very confused about the PNP. They bash Prime Minister Andrew Holness for being too friendly with Israel, and then a member is now calling Holness Adolf Hitler.

Is Krystal Tomlinson untouchable in the PNP? I consider her the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of the People’s National Party.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness should not go into any Vale Royal talks with the Opposition until this matter is cleared up.
