Molynes Utd three from three

Molynes United and Vere United both took a step closer to qualifying for the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) after wins over Lime Hall and Downs FC, respectively.

League leaders Vere defeated Downs 4-1 at Wembley in Clarendon, while Molynes turned back Lime Hall 2-1 at the Constant Spring Field.

After their win, Molynes coach Lijyasu Simms said that they were now in a good place but that the aim is to win the remaining three matches as well.

“Three wins put us on nine points; that puts us in good stead,” he said. “The ultimate is to get the three points, and we got three points today, so we just give thanks.

“The ultimate is to win all six, and we are three from three. Now we are going back to the training ground to get ready for Faulkland. As that is the aim – to go to Faulkland and get three points – and that would put us even closer,” he added.

Molynes created the first opening, but Ryan Brown put his shot wide. Patrick Shecklude then rattled the bar from six yards out from a ball played across the area. But two minutes later, they were awarded a penalty when Brown was taken down inside the box.

Serginio Frankson then dispatched the penalty to put the hosts in front.

Molynes had another great chance to get another before the break, but Brown headed over.

Three minutes after the break, Shaquill Wallace scored an unlikely equaliser when he wriggled his way through five defenders and toed a shot past the goalkeeper. But Fakibi Farquharson put Molynes back in front in the 51st minutes when he turned a defender and beat the goalkeeper at the near post with a low shot.

Lime Hall coach Barbara Black said the officiating was disappointing.

“The loss is hurting,” she said. “We played well but couldn’t score [enough goals].”

Vere now lead the standings with 10 points from four games, one more than Molynes.

The day’s other game ended goalless between Faulkland FC and Baptist Alliance.
