The Gleaner’s Fit 4 Life Season 3 is finally here!

Join us this Saturday, September 21, for the grand launch at The Gleaner, 7 North Street, Kingston (East Street entrance) for a sweat-drenching experience. You are guaranteed to get a circuit boot camp training session of a lifetime, working every muscle in your body and testing your fitness level.

Admission is FREE!!

Themed ‘Fit in 5’, each week, certified fitness trainers from Sweet Energy Fitness Club, TrainFit Fitness Club, Body By Kurt and Yoga Wellness will teach you five sets of five key moves targeting your body’s major muscle groups – guaranteed to give you great results.

Launched in 2017, The Gleaner hit a home run with its multidimensional health and fitness initiative, Fit 4 Life. The programme came at a time when Jamaica, and, in fact, the rest of the world, through the World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization, had launched an aggressive campaign to get persons to adopt healthier lifestyle habits in order to reduce lifestyle-related non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

NCDs are responsible for approximately 41 million global deaths annually, which put a heavy burden on economies around the world, particularly in low- to middle-income countries.

Hence, the focus of the global campaign is to prevent rather than cure.

The Gleaner’s Fit 4 Life is geared towards just that – helping Jamaicans make a lifetime commitment to practising healthier lifestyle habits through regular physical activity and consuming a healthier, balanced diet.

HOUSEHOLD BRAND

“Within a year of launching, Fit 4 Life grew into a household brand because it took a multidimensional, innovative approach to health and fitness by teaching persons how to exercise in fun and creative ways that give them maximum results, as well as maintaining a balanced diet on a budget. Persons were enjoying the experience of burning calories, building a stronger body, and just being healthier,” noted Fit 4 Life manager, Anastasia Cunningham.

According to fitness coach Marvin Gordon, “Fit 4 Life makes being healthy fun, not boring. Persons look forward to the exciting experience. They are not stuck in a dull routine that will lead to them being easily demotivated and give up.”

Gordon said that the programme achieves this through:

n Outdoor Saturday morning health and fitness events/boot camps in communities and at various locations across the island, giving persons a variety by mixing up the programme each week.

This also includes fitness challenges, where persons win prizes, as well as getting health fitness tips and demonstrations from sponsors and partners.

n Weekly print articles in the Wednesday Health section of The Gleaner, with attractive infographics, tips and advice.

n Video cooking and exercise demonstrations on The Gleaner’s website.

n Open access through yourhealth@gleanerjm.com, where readers could give feedback, ask for advice, get tips, speak to a personal trainer, etc.

THE ‘FIT IN 5 CHALLENGE’

This year, Season 3 of the annual 12-week health and fitness initiative will run from Saturday, September 21, to Saturday, December 7, at a different location each week.

“For this season, we will be giving away even more prizes. Every Saturday morning, the top-five contestants in the ‘Fit in 5 Challenge’ will win prizes from our many sponsors,” stated programme coordinator, Tennesia Malcolm.

“And at the end of the 12 weeks, the top-five contenders will take home the ultimate prizes. You definitely don’t want to miss a Saturday morning.”
