The Rotary Clubs of Montego Bay, at an historic meeting, recently welcomed its special guest, Delma Maduro, District Governor (7020 District) and her husband Audley Maduro. This reception also witnessed the induction of the first Corporate Member of the Rotary Club of Montego Bay, Professional Eye Care.

District Governor Delma Maduro, who is a citizen of the British Virgin Islands, has an impressive portfolio of achievements in business, public service, humanitarian projects and Tourism. The first female member of the Rotary Club of Tortola, she climbed the ranks from public relations chair to president of her club, to District Governor, which encompasses 10 Caribbean countries in the region. Equally impressive is her 42 years in business, which saw her at the helm of the island's largest distributor of Food and Beverage – the RTW Group of companies, which she served for 35 years.

She has also served in different capacities on several non-profit organisations and Government statutory bodies.

Addressing Rotarians at Sandals Montego Bay, District Governor Maduro, encouraged members, to exemplify a life of 'purpose' and 'passion'. She reminded everyone that ‘the most important resource’ is its members.

District Governor Maduro, also expressed thanks and deep appreciation to the Rotary Clubs of Jamaica, for their quick, practical and timely response to the plight of the Bahamian people in the wake of the devastation of Hurricane Dorian. The Rotary clubs of Jamaica are continuing to give substantial support to victims by way of supplies, human resource assistance and money.

President of the Rotary Club of Montego Bay, Yemima Garcia, outlined the club’s new and ongoing projects for 2019/2020. This includes the very successful Water and Sanitation project, which saw numerous schools, mostly in rural St James, receiving water tanks, and the proposed 12 month adoption of Hebron House, a women’s refuge, operated by the Pregnancy Resource Centre.
