Gaynstead, XLCR still unbeaten in ISSA netball

DEFENDING champions Gaynstead High and 2017 champions Excelsior High remained unbeaten in senior action of the ISSA Urban Area Schoolgirl netball competition. Both schools scored big wins in the penultimate set of matches in the second round of the competition at the Leila Robinson Court on Monday.

The Dalton Hinds-coached team was too good for former champions, The Queen’s School, turning them back 48-28 in an impressive display to stay on top of Group 11. In Group One, the Christopher Smart-coached Excelsior High brought the previously unbeaten St Catherine High down to Earth in a top-of-the-table clash as the Phyllis Thompson-coached team from St Johns Road suffered their first defeat of the season after being beaten 38-26.

Former champions Camperdown High, who lost their previous game against Gaynstead, put themselves back in contention to advance from Group 11 after a 28-28 stalemate with Norman Manley High, who will play Gaynstead in their crucial final encounter. In another senior match on the day, Campion College got by José Marti 35-8 while St Andrew High failed to show for their match against Merl Grove High.

In junior action, defending champions Gaynstead and St Hugh’s High remained unbeaten. Gaynstead beat Merl Grove 41-20 while St Hugh’s made it a double loss on the day for St Catherine after getting by them 35-25. Other results saw Ardenne High getting the better of José Marti High 39-23, Bridgeport High easing past Tarrant High 31-12, and Immaculate Conception High defeating Jonathon Grant High 19-9.
