More equipment to plug traffic ticket loopholes

National Security Minister Dr Horace Chang has indicated that the days of motorists accumulating hundreds of tickets without paying the penalty will soon be a thing of the past.

The new Road Traffic Act, which is expected to be implemented in early 2020, will also plug loopholes that allow delinquent motorists to evade sanctions.

“Motorists must, and will, be held accountable for their traffic infractions, and the police will impose the appropriate punitive sanctions where applicable,” the national security minister warned.

Chang handed over 12 laptops, three printers, and three desktop computers to Court Management Services yesterday in support of the Traffic Ticket Management System (TTMS).

The handover ceremony took place at the Supreme Court building on King Street in Kingston.

The TTMS is a centralised, web-based system that will improve the management of traffic tickets throughout the various stages such as application of payments, demerit points, court fines, and issuing of warrants.

According to Chang, the equipment would assist the courts in readily accessing information on the centralised system.
