At least once per week, we suggest ditching the fried chicken with curried gravy and ask yourself, “Y not pita?”

Since 2012, Y Not Pita has been a lunchtime hotspot for scores of people who prefer Mediterranean-style healthy eats.

Located in the CPJ Courtyard on Lady Musgrave Road, and serving both breakfast and lunch up to 9 p.m. on any given day, this eating house makes customisable and reasonably priced wraps, salads, mini pizzas and soups. Food decided to go for a quick drive to see what all the noise was about and, people, little did we know that we were in for a delightful time of mood-boosting sustenance.

As you walk into this restaurant, it’s clean urban design of mostly white decor will have you feeling your best healthy self, so you know you are making the right choice for your body.

We searched the menu in an effort to narrow down our choices and we found a few options for meat eaters, pescatarians, and vegetarians. The plus side, too, is the fact that everything is prepared with fresh ingredients, right before your eyes on a griddle, and you have the power to choose what bit of vegetables you’re in the mood to chow down.

WRAPS

In need of some carbs? Made with wheat or white pita bread, with the option of lettuce, tomato, jalapeños, hummus, cucumbers, carrots, olives, cabbage, cheeses, different onions and guacamole, you choose your filling.

If it’s breakfast time, feel free to explore the wonders of eggs and turkey ham or the national dish, ackee and salt fish. The shish tawook wrap proved to be our favourite at first bite because of the various flavours from the Lebanese-style chicken paired with the thousand island and Scotch bonnet dressing.

SALADS

We tried two. The falafel and hummus salad drizzled with olive oil, along with the seasoned shrimp and garlic mayo salad; also customisable. We’ve never quite been salad people, but here’s to 20-plenty where we are open to an abundance of health-conscious lifestyle benefits. The shrimp to vegetable ratio is perfect and the falafel is wonderfully seasoned and heavy enough to keep you satisfied until your next meal.

SOUPS

Every day there’s a new soup to enjoy. We happened to have got our hands on the gungo peas and beef soup. It was delicious, smooth in texture with just the right amount of flavour that complement the main ingredients. Paired with a wrap, you’re bound to experience blissful satiety.

DRESSING

We realise that the dressing can add a quick twist to your everyday order so we encourage you to try them all. Most of them are made from scratch and pair easily with the menu. A few of your options are: spicy ketchup, balsamic vinegar, fattoush and sweet onion along with your regular thousand island, mayo and ranch. Feel free to ask the staff for recommendations.

PIZZAS

Looking for a quicker bite that satisfies a cheese craving? Try their ready-to-go mini Zatar (Lebanese thyme mixed with olive oil) pizza, or the spicy cheese pizza topped with sesame seeds.
