AMCHAM awards Digicel Foundation
The Digicel Foundation started 2020 on a winning note after being named the runner-up awardee of the AMCHAM Award of Excellence for Civic Leadership – Large Foundation category – at the American Chamber of Commerce of Jamaica (AMCHAM) Business and Civic Leadership Gala held in January at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel. Newly appointed CEO and former Vice-Chair of the Digicel Foundation, Charmaine Daniels, beamed with pride as she accepted the award.
The award, the foundation’s second recognition from AMCHAM, marks the culmination of its successes in the areas of education, special needs, and community development. Since 2004, the Digicel Foundation has invested US$37 million in 1,275 projects, assisting over 664,000 Jamaicans. In 2019, the foundation awarded over J$30 million in grants to 30 community groups across every parish to commemorate its 15th anniversary under the theme ‘15 Strong’.
Daniels commented, “We’ve been able to do so much in the past 15 years, thanks to the support of our patron, Denis O’Brien, Digicel Jamaica, our corporate and governmental partners, and our extraordinary beneficiaries,” said Daniels. “This award will only fuel us to move into our next 15 years with even more energy, as we continue to work with our partners to create a world where no one gets left behind.”
