876 Terrace’s new location - moving with the times

“There’s no sincere love than the love of food.” George Bernard Shaw might have been the one to say this, but living this passion out loud is the owner of 876 Terrace Bar and Grill, Careem Mullings.

He was able to rediscover his love for culinary while engaging in the fruitful joys of entrepreneurship. When the call came for expansion, he answered. And when the time came for him to close a chapter and embark on a new adventure, he did just that. 876 Terrace Bar and Grill has now relocated from 1 Southdale Plaza to 17 Holborn Road.

The move came out of a need to fly the nest and spread the culinary wings. “We outgrew that Southdale location and the construction. And the subsequent relocation was a blessing. It gave us a much better location for a much better price,” Mullings told Food in a recent interview.

Picture a quaint semi-outdoor ambience overlooking Kingston and the country’s mountainside. The view is incredibly cool in the day, and by nightfall, dotted city lights and a starry moonlit sky, against the restaurant’s dim lighting supply the picturesque getaway.

MENU OFFERINGS

The shift has only inspired the eatery to recreate its already famous taste profile. The big hits still remain on the menu, like the popular pastas (chicken, shrimp and meat lovers), the Nashville chicken burger, curry lovers dish, and the award-winning smoking guns pork chops. But with limited dining now down to 10 persons or fewer, Mullings had to get creative. “We are committed to following all the guidelines stipulated by the Ministry of Health, and we will be using creative ways to reach our customers.” He continued, “Stability, in this present time, is lacking, with some restaurants having to close doors. We at 876 Terrace Bar and Grill like to see the opportunity within these ‘trying times’, so we wanted to see how we can reach our customers without having them physically dine with us.”

876 Terrace currently offers delivery through third parties, 7krave, Cut Di Line and Quick Plate. They also offer a car hop service, which ensures that customers are still able to enjoy the fabulous menu offerings while not having to risk exposure from the comfort of their vehicles. “Car hop service is our version of a drive through, where our customers would simply order prior to arrival and have their meals brought directly to their vehicle and payment is done at that point, as well reducing any likelihood of exposure.”

The restaurant uses one key designated delivery person, with sole duty being to attend to car hops. All deliveries, he declared, are done with fresh gloves, the to-go bags are kept in a separate area away from heavy traffic, and the staff wash hands frequently, based on company policy. “The card machines are sanitised before and after each delivery and the holding area is also sanitised. We use trays to also reduce contact, and these trays are also sanitised.”

The response, he says, has been overwhelming and the reviews have been welcoming. Great food, great service, delivered to your car, little to no wait time and, you guessed it, coronavirus free. “We are considering to offer other variations of the car hop service to further maximise our reach,” he added.
