Do the right thing, PNP

THE EDITOR, Madam:
POLITICS IS, indeed, a very dirty business. In the midst of Opposition Leader Dr Peter Phillips’ health challenges, certain members of the People’s National Party (PNP), either by default or design, have sought to spark controversy which directly questions the leadership, future and state of the PNP.
Such a move is unwise, short-sighted and insensitive, because a disunited party, or even the perception thereof, has, historically, proven to be an albatross around the neck of political parties.
The wisest, most pragmatic and most morally and ethically sound thing to do is for the party to allow, for better or for worse, Dr Phillips to remain the leader of the party through to the next general election, and let the political chips fall where they may. Given his unbroken loyalty, service and leadership role within the PNP, prior to him becoming its president, if any party member or officer deserves that kind of respect, courtesy and the benefit of any doubt that may exist about his leadership or his style of leadership, it’s Dr Peter Phillips.
