Shannon Gabriel celebrates bowling Ollie Pope on the fourth day of the opening Test yesterday.

Speedster Shannon Gabriel has been named man of the match for taking nine wickets in the opening Test at the Ageas Bowl in Southhapmton, England.

The West Indies have defeated England by four wickets on the final day.

"I'm still a bit stiff but thankfully there are a couple of days to recover," he's quoted by the BBC after being announced 'Man of the match'.

"Coming here, the guys were confident after we played them in the Caribbean, that we could get the job done."

Meanwhile captain, Jason Holder, commented on the performance of Gabriel and Jermaine Blackwood, who scored 95 runs.

"I'm really happy. The boys have worked hard and it's good to see it pay off," captain Jason Holder was quoted by the BBC following their win a short while ago.

"I'm happy that Gabriel came back well, and Blackwood too. They put their hands up and led the charge.

"It was a nerve-wracking start after losing quick three wickets and Campbell to injury. But Roston and Jermaine put on a good partnership and settled the nerves. From there we could build on.

"I missed the Barmy Army. But it was a level playing field without the crowds. It's been a good start back to international cricket, it sets the series up quite nicely," he said.
