The weekly Reggae Month University Industry Symposium will conclude this eventing, starting at 6 p.m., with the panellists taking a deep-dive into ‘Financial Planning for Creatives’.

The aim is to explore actionable strategies to aid creatives in investing earnings made in their respective fields.

The symposium will see the participation of Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange; Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett; as well as State Minister Alando Terrelonge, who will act as moderator. Panellists include Marlene Street Forrest, managing director, Jamaica Stock Exchange; Nora Blake, project manager, Jamaica Social Stock Exchange; Edison Galbraith, general manager, Development Bank of Jamaica; Rogerlene Milwood, taxpayer education officer, Tax Administration of Jamaica; and Loeri Ann Robinson, executive financial and investment adviser, Sagicor Life Jamaica.

“The purpose of these forums is to spark much-needed discussions on a part of the industry artistes and creatives tend to shy away from,” said Grange. “Creating art is an incredible gift, but it is imperative that creatives arm themselves with the knowledge to protect their work and legacies.”

According to Grange, the forum will be tackling topics such as stock market investments; entertainment as a social enterprise; grants, funding, and financing for creative enterprises; financial accounting for creatives; and more. “As usual, we have reached out to top professionals for each respective field, and they will be available to answer all questions during the live-stream.” Grange finished.

The discussion will be live-streamed across several platforms, including the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport’s official Facebook page, as well as the YouTube pages of JamVision, VP Records and the Public Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica, among others.

Reggae Month 2021, under the theme ‘Come Ketch di riddim virtually’, is organised by the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport .
