NATIONAL SENIOR women's team coach, Vin Blaine, confirmed to The Gleaner earlier today that he will be resigning from the post.

Blaine's announcement came following much controversy over a letter from 19 players in the women's squad, calling for his removal.

The letter was addressed to Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president Michael Ricketts, who referred the matter to the organisation's technical committee.

The technical committee, had last week, recommended that Blaine retain the position, saying it had found no evidence of the communication and coaching issues the players had cited.

The JFF Board upheld the recommendation.

Blaine, who has maintained that outside influences were at the root of a conspiracy to have him removed, revealed that some of the very players who signed the letter, called him to congratulate him after the JFF announced there were not enough grounds to fire the coach.

The players, Blaine said, had hoped to meet to iron out the differences between them, but said he had to inform them of his decision, which he says was taken in the best interest of the programme.

Blaine has not yet handed in his resignation, saying he was waiting on the JFF to complete the process of compensating his staff.

"I had already decided that I would resign, so there was no need to meet. This was done in the best interest of the team going forward.

"There is an arrangement for the staff to be taken care of before I really put in my resignation letter. But my resignation is definitely going to take place," Blaine told The Gleaner.
